The Warfile Report

I pulled up to Unity Sound record store to hail up Dready and Cross and saw Dale and Shane of Warfile sound purchasing some records there and decided to interview them since I had my tape recorder with me. Born in Jamaica and raised in New York, Dale was exposed to music and the sound system business from a very early age. He played on his cousin's sound system while there, so when he moved to Atlanta he brought along with him the desire to start his own sound and make a name for himself.

Crazy Dale and high school friend Hitman Shane came together in 1997 and formed WAR FILE SOUND. After building their record collection and purchasing equipment they started playing out at house parties and clubs around Atlanta. They garnered their appreciation for music and the sound system business by listening to clash and mixed tapes and watching videos of sessions and clashes.

Inspired by greats in the business such as: Bass Odyssey, Stone Love, King Addies, King Jammys, Killamanjaro, City Rock and Body Guard, Warfile sound definitely plans on being around for a while, as its their goal to take things to the next level, playing overseas and eventually one day competing in the world clash.

They feel that what sets them apart from other sounds in Atlanta is that they "add a different flava to di business….everybody play di same ting. Tonight, tomorrow night yu ago hear the same set a tune dem play". Their encouragement to young sounds is "Love music and do it because yu love it not because everybody else a do it"

Big Up:

Unity Sounds, Mystic Sound, Lyrical, Howard, Rodney British, Ambush, Damian, Tyrone, Sean, Atlanta ladies and the entire Warfile family.

"Look out fi 2004. Big tings a come fi di massive"
