U.N.I.T.Y. dat ah Unity!
Tampa, Florida witnessed the birth of
unity sound in 1996. Named by ninja ford when he made the sound’s
first dubplate the then one man sound made it’s move to Atlanta
Georgia, now the home of the sound and it’s three members, Redcross,
Dready and Sleepy.
UNITY
is without a doubt Atlanta’s foundation when it comes to
reggae/dancehall and the sound system business. This group of young
men has over the years etched for them a solid place in the local
market. Not only are they pioneers in the sound system business, they
are also Caribbean music ambassadors and have devoted years to
creating and maintaining one of Atlanta’s 3 Caribbean record/music
stores. Redcross has also spent many years on the More Fyah show on
WRAS 88.5 fm.
Having
played in Tampa, Orlando, Charlotte, Bronx, Columbia, SC, Alabama,
Chicago, Detroit, Japan, Virgin Islands, UNITY is inspired, influenced
and motivated to continue in the business by their accomplishments and
‘when people tell us that they love how we play or they love the cds…
etc’.
UNITY
confidently states ‘anyone can create a sound, promoting is another
thing but it’s easy as long as you know what you’re doing’.
Differentiated from other sounds by their ‘presence’ the one aspect of
the industry that unity most enjoys is ‘the people’ and urges young
upcoming sounds to ‘be motivated by the love not the hype’.
