Don Promotions

Event promotions, especially in the Atlanta market is not an easy task. Yet and still many manage to be successful at planning, promoting and delivering first class, quality events. One such promoter is Don of Don Promotions.

Don Promotions got its start in Chicago in 1996 and relocated to Atlanta in 1997 where it has since then managed to help elevate ‘Reggae’ in Atlanta. Promoting big names in the business like Bounty Killer, Beenie Man, Lady Saw, Luciano and most recently Buju Banton, April 26th at the Atrium.

As a veteran in the promotions business Don feels the Atlanta market has become “oversaturated”. “Too many people have gotten into the business that don’t understand it”. Over the years Atlanta has seen a large influx of promoters ‘trying to do a ting’ but not all deliver and as a result it has been harder for the promoters that do to garner the support of patrons.

Don is also concerned that “shows have been starting too late” granted things happen but this has been the complaint of many Concert attendees. Don Promotions has managed though to deviate from what has now been considered to be the norm and promises an early show time at all his events. I was at the Buju Concert, got there at 2:30 thinking the performance would start late but to my surprise Buju was already on stage performing. Big Respect to Don on that!

Don Promotions recently merged with Happy Bunch Family to form Island Jams Entertainment and it is their goal to “take reggae to another level and do bigger things. We want to go after the big shows that are out there as well as internationally”. So look out for them and continue to support their events in the future.

Don’t forget to check out FUSION every Friday at HAZE and Don Promotions 5th Annual Independence Celebration, July 3rd, 2003.

Big Respect: “Happy Bunch Family, Street Life Entertainment, Island Coast Entertainment, Webba Promotions, Trends Concept and Mosaic Entertainment.”
