Ring Ring, "Yeow weh yuh deh?
... On the way to Miami still. ... Alright we will link when u come
back. ... shizzle!" So it's Columbus Day Weekend, Atlanta is a ghost town
as everybody peel out to Miami for Carnival and New York for World
Clash. But still Cham performing tonight so haffi bounce and see what's
the vibe. After roping up 1 of the 10 people left in Atlanta to go take
in the show, we reach the Aquarium parking lot. "Wah, it look like Cham
Ram!" ... cause parking lot was full. However, little did we know, Kiss
104.sumpting was having a Jazz Concert @ the Atrium. No line @ Cham and
it's to 12, so we stroll over to Atrium to cut a rug with the old
fogies.
Daps daps, wah gwaan, security recognise my Authratayyyy, so we walts
in. Note to self, stay far from any Million Senior Citizens March.
Atrium was ram wid pure Down South Shawty Old Folks, listening to some
Down Home Blues (Never Again). I actually heard a man use the words,
*clears throat*, "Aw sooky now!" *bows head in disbelief*! From that
point it was time to
exit stage left and back to the Cham experience.

Bounce back to the Aquarium and still no line, now minutes to 1, [guess
everybody did really lef ATL for other festivities]! After being
molested by the local security enforcement we reach the door man, "Sorry
boss but u have to pay!" ... "Um my yute, this is H-AtlantaReggae.com,
the big website!" ... "Sorry I don't know nothing bout that sir, $20!"
... So after I had to b*tch slap the doorman, [yeh David big up for
talking to him still!], we strut through the door.
At that time Super Barry from Dajavoo was warming up the crowd, was
kinda scanty but everyone was bouncing to the tunes. Exchange the
pleasantries, hail up who fi get hail up, small up who fi get small up!
Super Barry was playing some good foundation tunes, "Yeow this is the
Dajavoo, wi large!", "Large up the family, Stoka, Ragga, King David,
Dajavoo wi deh yah!"
Couple more people stroll in, couple more ppl just as shocked it wasn't
packed, couple more ppl just whole a corner and gwaan vibe. Trust mi,
shocked on big wknd, BabyCham wasn't ram @ 1:30. Ne How, Super Barry
begins to SWITCH it up. U know seh Milo is a real rudebwoy still [yeah
right!], so when he switch it up to the delight of the 25 and older
crowd and started playing some " ...I'll take you there, Aint no smilin
faces", I had to give my forwards on the low so not to hurt my "gangsta
image". Tune after tune, Super Barry represented with the oldies, a
refreshing spin to the regular early warm vibes. Fully Dun It! And NO, I
wasn't the only one forwarding di oldies but goodies. [hmph]

In comes the other 1/3 of Dajavoo, Ragga & Stoka and they delve into
some conscious/foundation tunes and then quickly build up the pace in
some 90's dance vibe tunes. Going in and out of different flavas and
nicely mixing it up for the people. They were done hype from Super
Barry's round robin set, so they continued in the same vein. Not
dissapointing at all and musically
pleasing the people that were there to enjoy themselves, [since dem did
bruk and vex seh dem couldn't go Miami like everybody else!] After
further hyping up the crowd and heating up an already hot Club Aquarium
[Yall need some new air vents in dat place], they turned it over again
to Super Barry.
Don't know what the Dajavoo crew was drinking that day, but they were
all in high spirits reppin with their Buju T-shirt for Wednesday
November 26th @ The Atrium *plug*, and vibin out. Super Barry start bun
some hip hop and the place went nuts. Especially when he made his speech
when introducing the Never Scared by Bone Crusher, "Yuh Have some
Puuu$$y, seh it wid me
ppl" ... crowd in Unisen ... "Puuu$$y". "Yeh who ah try dis Dajavoo but
yuh know wah!!!!" ... "So I'm outside of the club & u think I'm a punk,
puuuuuuuullllllllll uppppppppppp!" Crowd went crazy and enjoyed the
brief hip hop set.
Then he passed it over again to Ragga & Stoka who were "Mad Sick, Head
Nuh Good" ... blazed some current tunes for the people then announced,
"5 more minutes till show time!" So I screechy down in front of the
stage to get a good paparazzi stance for the live concert. Damn it's 4
a.m., ppl were well entertained by the vibes from the sounds, but it was
evident they were ready to get the show on di road. Rass, if this was
Jamaica, nuff bottle would reach the stage already, but ATL people use
to the 4 in the morning vibe.
"And coming to the Stage Atlanta, please give a warm welcome to
2Ekwip!", The V.I. bad boys took stage, known for a their good stage
presence and vibe, they blazed a quick fire. Did couple couple covers of
some shawty shawty tunes then were signaled to exit the stage as the ppl
started to become restless. They passed the torch to some other local
cats, who did
their thing, but due to some "technical difficulties" and lack of vibe,
their quick stint was over.

Finally, what everyone was waiting for "BabyCham!!!!!!!!!!" ... girls
scream and faints. The hardrive band kicked it into high gear playing a
medley of tunes and then in comes Mr. Cham himself. "True A Country Wi
Live and Wi nuh have gas stove suh pure wood fire ... mi nah fi ask, ah
more wood she waahhhh!!!" ... "Wah Wow", he then did a new tune bigging
up the girls,
saying it's a Christmas tune. 4 an instance he did some new dance on the
bruk out riddim, blazaay, pon di river. "From yuh a bun a fassyhole mek
mi hear a ... FCUK U" ... "Mek mi sih every single middle finger in the
air, put your fingers in the, middle fingers in the air for the haters!"
The
Atlanta chorus was in effect but it was evident they were tired waiting
til 4. Cham did well going through his catalog, "taking a ride a ride a
joy ride!", got big forwards for the Jamaican anthem, "Hear mi nuh
babylon bwoyy!!!", "Me and my crew, where on another level!!", and did
his rendition of Bob Marley's, "Man to man is so unjust, you don't know
who to trust ... who the cap fit, let them wear it!", then "Lean on me,
when you're not strong and I'll be your friend, I'll help you carry on!"
... "Wah Wow" ... "I C dem coming from a far ... no matter who they are,
wi bun bad mind!" Tune for tune, hit for hit, BabyCham did his thing and
then went into what the ladies were there to hear. "Nuff gyal stake out
mi home and ah blow up mi phone cause dem want di Vitamin S"
Even though the numbers weren't nuff, I had a good time, BabyCham did
well despite the tired crowd and Dajavoo had the crowd rocking from
early. All in all an entertaining night, now off to Kool Running Belly
to get my early morning snack. Wait yuh have fish tea in di back, no
Kool Running Belly 4 Me den.
Till next time, Walk Good, Up 2 Di Time, Down 2 Di Minute, Pon Di
Corner, Shizzle!
